Football fans in Groningen and beyond can prepare for a World Cup experience of truly epic proportions. Creative hotspot DOT, located in the Ebbingekwartier district, is transforming its iconic white dome into Europe’s largest football for the upcoming World Cup. With a diameter of no less than 26 metres, the Groningen dome will become the continent’s ultimate visual World Cup landmark. Inside and around the giant “football,” all matches of the Dutch national team will be broadcast live for more than 1,500 passionate football fans.

DOT is already known throughout the Netherlands for its striking, futuristic architecture, but this transformation takes things to a whole new level. The exterior of the 26-metre-wide dome will be completely styled as a classic football, allowing Groningen to lay claim to a European record. It is the ultimate eye-catcher and a symbol of the city’s Oranje fever.
“We wanted to do something big for this World Cup, but when we did the calculations, we realised that our Dome gave us a unique opportunity,” says Theun, co-owner of DOT. “With a diameter of 26 metres, we officially have Europe’s largest football on our grounds. It’s impossible to miss. From the outside, it’s a spectacular sight; inside, we’re creating the most intense stadium experience in the northern Netherlands.”
All Dutch national team matches live in and around the ‘football’
Inside the giant football, all matches of the Dutch national team will be shown live. Thanks to the Dome’s state-of-the-art audio-visual system, supporters will feel closer to the action than ever. The organisers promise a complete Oranje fan zone featuring pre- and post-match entertainment, cold drinks, and an atmosphere comparable to that of a real football stadium. What can visitors expect?
Europe’s largest football, a unique 26-metre landmark in the city of Groningen. All Dutch national team matches live, follow the Netherlands’ quest for the world title from the first whistle to the last. Giant screen and premium audio, crystal-clear visuals, both inside and outside, combined with a sound system that brings the stadium atmosphere indoors. Free admission, all matches are free to attend; capacity is limited, so full is full.
The doors of the giant football will open well before kick-off for all Dutch national team matches. Given the unique setting and the expected turnout, visitors are advised to arrive early.
