Medical wellness retreats have been around for decades, but today we see an increasing number of hotels and resorts embracing the longevity trend. Around the world, more and more research is being conducted to answer the growing demand for a healthier and longer life. Longevity has become a key focus online, in luxury hotels and resorts, and increasingly in restaurants and wellness concepts. But how can hospitality entrepreneurs respond to this trend? In this article, we share ideas, inspiring examples and links to hoteliers who already offer longevity programmes.

Longevity programmes | How to age well and live longer

Longevity is best described as the pursuit of healthy ageing and living longer. Across Europe, particularly in Germany and Switzerland, there has long been a tradition of ‘Kurort’ – spa resorts where guests can recover from illness or simply enjoy thermal baths, extensive wellness facilities and, in many cases, medical guidance from doctors and healthcare professionals. I once spent a few days at Grand Resort Bad Ragaz. The stunning surroundings, thermal baths, wellness facilities and excellent food left me feeling completely refreshed and relaxed. 😉

Adler Spa Resort Sicilia

What has been possible at these types of resorts for many years is now being implemented throughout the luxury hospitality sector worldwide. We recently spent a week at Adler Spa Resort Sicilia, a beautifully designed and sustainably built resort where the natural surroundings, multiple swimming pools, sports facilities, spa and yoga classes all contribute to relaxation and well-being. The resort also places a strong emphasis on vegetables and locally sourced products. Guests can choose from an extensive range of massages and treatments, including ‘Feel Good Rituals’, ‘Feel Well with Adler Med’, ‘Sleep Therapy’, ‘Your Health Package’, ‘Adler Med – Prevention and Diagnosis’ and, of course, ‘Longevity’.

We especially enjoyed the nature, tranquillity, sea views, pools, spa facilities and food. A week of rest, routine and rejuvenation. Below are a few more examples of hotels and resorts responding to the growing desire to live longer and healthier lives.

SHA Experience | Personalized health and longevity

The combination of longevity and technology is becoming increasingly common. SHA Wellness has launched a new programme called ‘Tailor Made’, which uses an advanced algorithm to create a personalised programme based on each guest’s individual needs and goals. It is a great example of how technology and medical expertise can work together to provide guests with a highly personalised wellness experience.

The world’s largest sound healing dome

Sound also plays an important role in overall well-being. Many wellness resorts include singing bowl treatments and sound therapy sessions as part of their wellness programmes. A the Instagram page of Maison de la Sérénité from Paris we spotted a 214-square-metre dome, an architectural masterpiece specifically designed to create a unique acoustic environment. This Sonorium is located at Tulãh Clinical Wellness in Calicut, in southwestern India.
