Domino’s Japan has launched a packaging design for its pizza boxes and a special iPhone App featuring the virtual popstar ‘Hatsune Miku’. The iPhone app comes with a social camera function which allows you to take pictures of yourself and ‘Hatsune Miku’. When your pizza is delivered you can point your phone’s camera toward the box and it will turn into a dancing stage to watch and listen to Miku’s performance.

Domino’s pizza ran a campaign at their home market. They used a door-to-door guerilla strategy, placing flyers under each door (half in, half out), in a way that is seemed real oven spatulas delivering straight from the oven inside the house. Domino’s pizza has received a number of complaints, and to remedy this, they have a Facebook page placed the ‘Think Oven’. This allows people to share their ideas. The two people with the best ideas will receive a prize.

Domino’s Pizza created an app for the iPad, the Pizza Hero, to create your own pizza and to order it afterwards. User can knead the dough, spread the pizza sauce and add all preferred ingredients. The application is divided into 11 stages in which the game element is added of making it a race against the clock, prior to the order-phase of the pizza. By means of this application the ‘handmade’ aspect of Domino’s Pizza is stimulated.

A branch of Domino’s in Dayton, Ohio (USA) recently presented a breakfast pizza. The breakfast pizza is available in three different flavors: ham & bacon, salami, onion & pepper, and onion, green pepper & mushrooms. Besides the pizza, cutsomers can alsoorder a cup of coffee or a cup of orange juice.

Restaurant Aroma Italian Fine Dining in Vaassen has been named ‘Italian Restaurant of the Year’ in the Netherlands by the glossy Italy Magazine. They will also become members of JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs and the chef will publish a cookbook this fall. And the winner of the Chefs & Shakers competition by Don Papa Rum is: Team Havn and cocktail bar Feijoa. They created a small beer-like cocktail with luxury streetfood.
