The Diabetes Foundation in the Netherlands has introduced a new online platform with recipes for cooking with diabetes disease. There is often a lot of confusion about what you can eat when you have diabetes. Besides that, eating healthy food is an important part of the treatment and can reduce the impact of diabetes. For theses reasons, the Diabetes Foundation created a website with recipes, cooking tips and facts about diabetes. People can also send recipes and they are checked by a dietitian and will be added with the nutritional values. It will be a platform of and for people with diabetes.
Budweiser introduces the red light

In Canada Budweiser is appealing to hockey fans by offering them their very own ‘red light’. Every time their team scores, the light will go off with a honk. The light is connected via Wi-Fi network. Fun applicable for pubs as well! Maybe an ‘orange light’ for the Dutch soccer fans?
Reservation site lets users upload pics

The online restaurant reservation provider, OpenTable, has acquired ‘FoodSpotting’, a San Francisco start-up. FoodSpotting is an app and it’s sole mission is to let users showcase their latest restaurant meal, what it looks like and where to get it. OpenTable will intergrate the app into its reservation system. How the integration will look like isn’t clear yet except that the focus will be on visuals.
2021: the ‘FoodSpotting’ app, the Hot Trend of 2010, is no longer available. Check out the article at ChefsTemp about what happened to the app that once promised users they would help them decide “what to eat, not just where”?

Heat sensative table

This handmade out of solid oak ‘Linger a little longer’ table designed by Jay Watson reacts to heat. The table is covered with a black thermochromic coating which allows people to leave a temporary mark. The surface responds to heat from a body part or a any warm dish or cup and becomes transparent to reveal the wood beneath.

KRNWTR thinks it’s time for an app that maps tap water in the hospitality branch. Still you can’t order a glass of tap water everywhere. With this app you can see where they serve tap water and where they don’t. You can indicate where you’ve got tap water as well. Through crowd funding KRNWRT is trying to realize this app. You can invest from €2,50. Look here for more information.
TrackMyMacca for Aussies

McDonald’s in Australia, better known as Macca’s, introduced a new iPhone app. With the app ‘TrackMyMacca’s’ the guest can see where the ingredients originate from and what happens before they are served. Another example of transparency at McDonald’s. In Canada they’ve created a YouTube movie about the difference between the hamburger in an ad and in your own box. There is also a ‘behind the scenes‘ about the French fries.
