Social Dining get more foothold in the Netherlands. Social Dining is having diner with people with common interest. The initiators of Social Dining are Jesse van der Meulen and Simon Hochstenbach. According to the two intrepreneurs, there is great need for more social contact. Interested people subscribe to a website. During the dinner fellow citizens meet eachother with the same hobby or common business interests.

Who grabs the phone pays dinner

The California hip-hop dancer Brian Perez (25) devised a game to end the facebooking, tweeting and telephone calls in a restaurant. His bet: a game called “Do not Be A Di*k During Meals With Friends”. The rules are very simple. The game starts after everyone has ordered. Then everyone puts the phone down with the display on the table and the first one that picks up the phone has to pay the entire bill.

This Christmas choir is sponsored by Bagel Nash, a bagel chain in the United Kingdom. In Leeds they went to four Bagel Nash shops to sing Christmas songs. People could request a song on Twitter or Facebook.

Already a known system in Germany, but now seen in the Netherlands as well. Did you drink a cup of coffee at Starbuck, keep your receipt to use the toilet. Clever for the entrepreneur; you prevent lines with tourists for the toilets.

Research Dutch wellness visitors

Van Spronsen & Partners hospitality consultancy has researched the wellness branch in the Netherlands. The focus of this research is the visitors’ view. The results of 800 questionnaires provide a clear and honest picture of both the visitors and non-visitors. The Dutch report provides insights on the motives and thoughts of the non-visitors (and thus potential visitors) and gives wellness related companies the tools to anticipate on the expectations of their target group.

The National Restaurant Association (USA) asked almost 1800 professional chefs about their opinion of the trends for 2012. They said about 223 items if it was a hot trend, yesterdays news or a perennial favourite. The results of the survey tell us that healthy food for kids, the use of local products, sustainability and social media are really important in 2012. Choose your neighbour at the airplane

From the beginning of 2012, passengers of KLM can choose their own neighbour by selecting an interesting contact through using Facebook of LinkedIn. After check-in, passengers can open up their profiles. In 2012 a pilot will be started.

Restaurant in the backyard

Malibu Farm Dinner is a new restaurant-concept in Malibu in which everything is focused on the micro-environment. Guests are dining in the garden of the farm where the entrepreneurs live and the ingredients and wines literally come from the backyard. In addition a live-band performs each evening of which the son of the entrepreneurs is a part of. In this way Malibu Farm doesn’t feel like a formal dinner, but more like a nice party at a friend’s house.

Two hours of total focus on music with a ‘guide’. The initiators came up with this concept due the stress nowadays, nobody is really listening to the music anymore. During two hours the visitors will hear all kinds of genres, composers and songwriters. At the end the visitors can determine how much they will pay, depending on how much they’ve liked the show.
