During a special event (in 2009) Restaurant Lounge in Frankfurt served popsicles shaped like pistols. Created by the German designers Florian Jenett and Valentin Beinroth. The popsicle was available in the flavors, cherry, licorice, cola and cassis. The designers clearly have a thing with popsicles and pistols. In 2003, they hung up about 50 of them right in the center of Frankfurt. A great idea for dessert at a “who did it?” diner.

According to the Dutch trendwatcher Adjiedj Bakas, potato is making a comeback! The potato fits into the trend of nostalgic-food. Consumers crave for nostalgia as counterpart to turbulent times. Who’s going to hit the streets with the Victorian potato ovens selling (baked) potatoes as street food? We Dutchies are already known for being “The Potato Eaters”.

Another nice example of shop-in-shop. Ice maker of the year in 2004 Wesmael David, who works at the Groupe Holder (Ladurée among others), developed the ice cream Joly. The creamy ice cream is kept at -8 degrees Celsius and finished with toppings a la minute in the Water-bar of the department store Colette in Paris. Ice cream from Jerome Biarritz is alsosold ice here, the icemaker is specialized in special flavors of ice cream, for example Chantaco, Ginger Lime, Neige du Sahara, Rock’n Rhum, Xocolate.

At restaurant Chew Chew in Sydney, Australia, only dogs are allowed. Owners are allowed to come in, but cann’t eat. The menu includes amongs others goat milk cappuccino with liver sprinkles. The restaurant was created by Naoko Okamoto, an animal nutritionist.

In New York Bell Book & Candle restaurant recently opened where all vegetables are grown on the roof of the building. Without uising soil but unique water systems instead, they can grow all sorts of vegetables. Due to the special water system the vegetables grow faster than usual.
