On Saturday the 13th of October the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, techno producer Secret Cinema and Ted Langenbach join forces during the Advanced Music Fest Blown Away. At about 100 musicians and another 100 performers will combine classical and electonic music in the Rotterdam harbor area during an explosive creative and visually attractive evening.
Urban farming at Hoog Catharijne

Corio and Biet & Boon are working together to develop a pop-up roof garden project on shopping mall Hoog Catharijne in Utrecht. The harvest goes to local restaurants, offices and volunteers. Earlier this year the largest roof garden opened in Amsterdam.

Harvard University presents the annual iG Nobel Prizes on the 20th of September. The prizes are for respectable researchers that ‘make people laugh and then think’. The first satellite event in the Netherlands is in the ‘Stadsgehoorzaal’, Leiden. The award show is live broadcasted. Before the show various Dutch researchers and scientists explain their funny or crazy research to the audience. The Hotel Leiden, Ibis Leiden Centre and Holiday Inn offer special package deals for this event.

Amsterdam City Swim in canals

The canals of Amsterdam host a swimming match on Sunday 9 September. The event is organized by the Amsterdam City Swim foundation and Waternet, the benefits go to a research fund for the ALS disease (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). The route starts at the ‘Marine Etablissement’, goes past the ‘Scheepvaart museum’ to the Amstel, Herengracht and finishes in the Keizersgracht. It’s also possible to swim the distance in a 4×500 meter relay with a business team.
Straw Wars in London to fight plastic straws

The London Soho community wants to cut back the use of plastic straws with the ‘Straw Wars’ campaign. This way they prevent that the straws will end up in the environment.
