Lowlander Pumpkin Weizen, from rescued pumpkin

21-9-2022

  • Lowlander Pumpkin WeizenLowlander Pumpkin Weizen

Botanical brewer Lowlander brings a breath of fresh air to the fall beer season and introduces the Lowlander Pumpkin Weizen (5% abv). In keeping with the beer brand’s ambition to become “Nature Positive” by 2030, the Pumpkin Weizen contributes to the fight against food waste. The fall beer is brewed with rescued pumpkins that could not be sold due to beauty flaws. The Lowlander Pumpkin Weizen is from now on available at Albert Heijn, in the better catering industry and via the Lowlander webshop, among others.

We previously wrote about the first alcohol-free craft beer tap and Lowlander’s Cool Earth Lager, to combat climate change. In 2021, for every Cool Earth Lager beer sold, Lowlander planted a seagrass plant in the Wadden area. Last year we also wrote about their I.P.A. Re-Genever, their Botanical beer garden to go and more other interesting articles. We are always very enthusiastic about the initiatives of Lowlander, and we are again very curious about this new beer, what would you drink it with?

A couple of weeks ago we spotted the great term HosPETality and because we travel with our family & office dog, Labradoodle Jimmy, we spot a lot of examples of pet-friendly gestures. In hotels you have to pay a small fee for the dog but mostly you get a bowl, doggy pillows and if the dog is lucky, a treat! It already starts with the reservation, we booked a stay at a hotel in Spain and because we gave notice of our dog and asked them to book a table for dinner, they emailed us that they booked us a table at the terrace so Jimmy could accompany us for dinner. Just thoughtfull! We made a list of very great small gestures hotels and restaurants can implement.

Some news from London: Barrafina is opening their fifth location in London, Barrafina Borough Yards. The serve authentic regional dishes from around Spain and they also have a location at Coal Drops Yard, great place to eat before you take the train back to the mainland! And the ‘Emo’ makeover for Wendy’s Logo at a new location in Camden is great! Check it out in the article.

Saudi Arabia plans to build a hyper-futuristic city in the desert that it calls NEOM. They unveiled a PR video of THE LINE part of the NEOM project. THE LINE is only 200 meters wide, 170 kilometers long and 500 meters above sea level. We wonder which hotel chains we might spot in this city!

For the Duvel Designer Glass 2022, the latest edition of the Duvel Collection, Duvel collaborates with the illustrator and DJ Franky Sticks from Rotterdam. As far as he is concerned, it’s all about movement – whether it be waves of music, people on the dance floor or lines on a canvas. With every movement, something new, something quirky, something devilish can emerge. This is how Franky Sticks and Duvel found each other on the cutting edge of creation, experimentation and innovation. The new Duvel Designer Glass 2022 will be available as of 5 September and will be launched on Thursday 1 September during a jam session hosted by Franky Sticks in his beloved Rotterdam.

We wrote about it just this week: a special glass that people can take home with them. The Duvel Collection is one such example; when you buy a 4-pack, you get 1 Duvel x Franky Sticks glass for free. It is also nice for bars or restaurants to develop a special glass that you can give home! Or a special holder in which you can put a glass? Check out this article for more details.

Don’t you enjoy the outdoors again, being able to meet friends on a terrace? We do and we are curious which drinks are popular this year besides the standard white wine, rosé, white beer, special beer and non-alcoholic beer. The popularity of the Aperol Spritz remains undiminished, but we are seeing more and more versions of the Spritz and the non-alcoholic drinks are especially popular during the day! We have also spotted special glasses for drinks, a trend for 2022 as a colleague called it, but whether you can talk about it as a trend? During my time as a stewardess, I was given a small Buddha statue in which a plastic glass with a cocktail was placed at a Japanese Steakhouse, you could keep the Buddha. These Buddha’s were so popular with friends that I regularly enjoyed a cocktail there. And that was really a long time ago… ^Marjolein

A list of summer drinks that are now popular on the terrace and alternatives:
