Trends we spotted | Week 16

At hospitalitytrends.eu we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the smaller trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

This week, among other links to articles about sleep concierges and other amenities high-end hotels offer their guests to guarantee a good night’s sleep and The first official Naanery opened in London.

In the future we can’t call a vegetarian hamburger a burger anymore, if European legislation becomes official. We don’t think it will be a big issue, we will eat ‘veggie discs’ as well! And in London a new Nobu Hotel at Portman Square will open in the Spring of 2020.

Deepspot Pool | Deepest diving pool in the world

This autumn, the deepest diving pool in the world will be put into operation near Warsaw (exactly in Mszczonów). The project is called Deepspot and is unique by its size, but also because of the transparency of water. Crystalline depth of 45 meters (8,000 cubic meters of water, 27 times as much as in ordinary 25-meter swimming pools!) will provide pool users with an extraordinary experience. Disaronno Day at ‘Flying Dutchman Cocktails’ | A 24-hour bar shift relay from Auckland to Los Angeles

Another good example of the “marketing”-days that are celebrated in the USA. They celebrate Amaretto Day on the 19^th of April and Disaronno created their own day, and they celebrate Disaronno Day all over the world! The iconic liqueur is then the centerpiece of ‘The Longest Shift’, a 24-hour bar shift relay that starts in Auckland in Australia and ends in Los Angeles. Disaronno has asked top bartenders from all over the world to put together a creative cocktail menu especially for this day with Disaronno as one of the ingredients. The Netherlands is also part of this bar shift: top bartender Tess Posthumus will serve three signature cocktails to her guests in cocktail bar ‘Flying Dutchmen Cocktails’ in Amsterdam. read more

YouTube has been a source of inspiration for spotting trends past few years. Every day, thousands of movies are uploaded with new and interesting content. We too sometimes use videos as a source of inspiration to write about. With this week again a selection of videos which Demi Poppe thinks are worth it to watch.

This week a video about the popularity of the Brussel sprouts on the American menu’s and part of the sprout are harvested in the Netherlands. Also a video about the tentacle of an octopus that is sold as a corndog. A new creation by the team of the Dominique Ansel restaurant and bakery in Los Angeles. Finally, a video about oysters, why do we eat them alive and more information.

Getting into the festive spirit with bubbledogs golden hotdogs

This December, bubbledogs, the gourmet hotdog and Champagne bar in Fitzrovia, London, is getting into the festive spirit with a gold hotdog giveaway, where visitors have the chance to win a bottle of co-founder Sandia Chang’s favourite rosé Champagne on the house. Bubbledogs will be giving away golden hotdogs from the 4thDecember until the 31stDecember. Recipients of each golden hot dog will receive a 375ml bottle of Collin-Guillaume Rosé Champagne. read more

This week, amongst others, about Halo Burger that will open the first vegan burger joint that sells the Beyond Burger in London and the Amsterdam-based The Avocado Show will open a restaurant in Brussels by the end of this month. And more vegan news: in London you can follow a fast track vegan chef course! In New York at the Time Warner Center David Chang opened a Korean wrap bar, Bāng Bar. We also spotted crystal cordless lamps!

This week, amongst others, a link to an article about Crossroads Kitchen that serves luxury plant-based seafood towers for vegetarians! But also a link to an article about the new fish markets in Tokyo, Toyosu Market and Panera Bread started a campaign around food transparency: ‘Food Interrupted’. McDonald’s started with testing ‘cold brew coffee’ in all their San Diego based restaurants. Pillows Grand Hotel Reylof & restaurant LOF in Ghent | Open after renovation

13-9-2018

Pillows Grand Hotel Reylof, situated at the Hoogstraat in Ghent, will open its doors on the 6^th of October. The Louis XIV style townhouse hotel with 157 rooms, bars, an extensive living room, salons (for both business and private meetings) and a spa was completely renovated into a boutique hotel. Modest luxury with soft colors and rich natural materials will determine the atmosphere. Not only the hotel was renovated, the well-known LOF Restaurant has also been completely renewed. Unique is that the restaurant gets the signature of Ron Blaauw – one of the most well-known star chefs in the Netherlands. Blaauw will translate his successful Ron Gastrobar concept for LOF.

In addition, we received the message that Bird Brewery from Amsterdam scored 5 times gold at the World Beer Awards 2018, in the article a list of the winning beers!
