Urban farming at Hoog Catharijne

Corio and Biet & Boon are working together to develop a pop-up roof garden project on shopping mall Hoog Catharijne in Utrecht. The harvest goes to local restaurants, offices and volunteers. Earlier this year the largest roof garden opened in Amsterdam.

More than fifteen home cooks joined forces to prepare a neighborhood dinner and take it to the Erasmuspark in Amsterdam on the 9th of September. 200 neighbors can experience each others kitchens from 14.00 to 18.00 o’clock.

Noorderparkbar made of second-hand materials

The Noorderparkbar in Amsterdam, opened in April 2012, is financed by crowd-funding. Designers Bureau SLA and Overtreders W decided to save expenses by using 100% second-hand materials. An ancient Japanese technique, shou sugi ban, was used to produce a cost-effective, low-maintenance exterior cladding of charred wood. More pictures on  The Pop-Up City.

Hotspot Bar-restaurant Mercat

This coming September, Spanish bar-restaurant Mercat will open its doors in the upcoming harbor-area of Amsterdam. This restaurant, which is part of IQ Creative, is based on the typical Spanish market halls, where guests can enjoy all day of a (small) bite or a drink. Mercat will be open seven days a week from 9 am.

Hotel Droog

It is not a ‘real’ hotel, because of the missing licenses, but a range of shops, a café and a clothing shop of the leading Dutch design production company Droog. Droog creates products, projects and events around the world in collaboration with designers, clients and partners, located in Amsterdam. Hotel Droog is an exhibition space and test space and opens officially in September.

Harvest festival potato

This coming 14th of July, the Harvest festival in the theme of the potato takes place in Amsterdam Roest, organized by Youth Food Movement and artist Sascha Landshoff. The potato is one of the most eaten, but as well one of the least rated vegetation in the Netherlands. This festival takes place in a time of the estrangement the urban consumers have with their food.

Hotel for woman only

The Hostelle woman hotel is built in the old headquaters of the Bijenkorf/Hema. Bianca Brasdorp is responsible for the design of the rooms, she focuses mainly on the age group between 16 and 55 years old. In the hotel you will find graffiti, large QR codes on canvas with information about the art museums in Amsterdam. A Chinese room, a Marie Antoinette room and a pink bathroom with a Hello-Kitty-toilet. In short, a real woman domain.

Inspiration session ice cream parlor Mezzo – Herring ice

After several years of trend-spotting we’ve challenged ourselves to translate a hospitality trend to a practical promotion. Together with Ice Cream Parlor Mezzo in Amsterdam we came up with the idea to collaborate with the local market vendors. With the ice cream flavours herring, rhubarb and asparagus we’ve made it to national television and gained a lot of local publicity.

Tres Hombres rum stands for a combination of several passions: sailing, traditional ships, crew training, a healthy environment, good harmony and of course rum. Tres Hombres rum comes from the Caribbean, created by three friends Arjen van der Veen and Jorne Langelaan from the Netherlands and Andreas Lucker from Austria. This rum is fully emission-free transported, without any fuel or engine and therefor carries the label Fairtransport. The rum is arriving in the Netherlands (Amsterdam). Tres Hombres invites all interested people to come to the Tres Hombres ship in Amsterdam (the Netherlands), to taste their rum and chocolate. This is possible between 6 and 16 June.
