Eat and drink in MAS Antwerp

1-8-2012

The Museum Aan de Stroom (MAS) is a diamond in the Antwerp harbor area, next to old cranes and a marina. The imposing building is located in a relatively unknown part of the city and houses a museum, the raw Café Storm and two star restaurant ‘t Zilte by Viki Geunes. With this mix of interests the area attracts a diverse audience.

Tip: Also check ‘Antwerpen Proeft’ from 16 to 19 August.

Next to the prominent chefs there are local and artisanal products like hand made Moon Pops ice creams.

It’s Earth Day and the world is becoming increasingly aware of climate change and sustainability challenges. Large-scale research by hotel group Accor** shows that one in five travelers from Northern Europe would be willing to pay more for a holiday if the tour operator offering the holiday was arguably green or CO2 neutral. How lucky are we that both the Netherlands and Belgium have many sustainable hotels. Below are some green gems where you absolutely don’t have to compromise on luxury or comfort and where sustainable initiatives are taken all year round. Fortunately, there are more and more of these too!

The Nagano prefecture in Japan is sending a delegation to Belgium in May to teach those interested about sake for two weeks. Sake and Japanese cuisine are becoming increasingly popular in fine dining and trendy restaurants in Belgium, but few people actually know what sake is. In collaboration with the local Japanese government and Belgian sake importer Kaori, a Japanese brewmaster and sake expert from the Nagano prefecture will give tastings, workshops, and training for two weeks. If you’re quick, you can book a spot at participating restaurants DIM Dining, Zuru Zuru, Chef Yoshi, Nikoniko, and Tanuki, but CRU and Filliers are also ready to host the Nagano sake roadshow.

Opening – Restaurant Elea in The Hague. Hostess Bibi Kuyp and chef Takis Panagakis opened the doors of their fine-dining restaurant on the Noordeinde in the city, previously their restaurant was located in Rijswijk. A stone’s throw from the Palace Noordeinde, they serve their creative, modern cuisine with subtle Greek influences.

We’ve already had the pleasure to enjoy the Greek influences on chef Takis Panagakis’ innovative French cuisine and the enthusiasm of hostess Bibi Kuyp’s team (especially when it comes to Greek wines) so we can definitely recommend a visit to restaurant Elea in The Hague!
