In English they call it a caviar bump – in Dutch: ‘Slurping caviar’. According to House of Caviar & Fine Foods: the trend of this year. Our colleague Leonie van Spronsen wrote a blog about it in May this year, unfortunately in Dutch. In this blog, she also gave another delicious recipe that should be served on hand, a combination of pata negra and foie gras. Both products must be at the right temperature; fold a slice of the pata negra and place a cube of foie gras on it!

The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz launched this audio experience yesterday in Bad Ragaz. The five episodes of ‘Murder at the Grand Resort’ were produced in collaboration with the Winterthur-based company Podcast Schmiede and are based on the famous crime story ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ by Agatha Christie. The postcast is in the German language and is officially called “Mord im Grand Resort’, good to practice your German.

From December 14 through Sunday, December 17, Starbucks invited everyone to share how their home’s holiday display brings cheer to their neighborhood. In America, Mac & Cheese is hugely popular and available with all kinds of ingredients, even with crab and lobster! Why this dish isn’t as popular here in Europe, we really don’t understand. Recently, we came across the Mac & Cheese Nibblers from White Castle, an American fast food chain. They are putting their beloved Sloppy Joe, Smoky Joe and Spicy Joe Sliders, along with the Mac & Cheese Nibblers, back on the menu during the winter months until February 4.
Their Nibblers look like our famous ‘bitterballen’ with a creamy content of macaroni and cheddar! We think a lot of Dutch people would love them as well!

Today, March 6, marked the start of the sixth edition of the Dutch National Week Without Meat & Dairy. Since the last edition, dairy has been added to the campaign, now a permanent feature. The campaign invites the whole of the Netherlands to take up the challenge to become aware of the positive climate impact of eating less meat and dairy in a positive and inspiring way. This is the week in which the Netherlands learns how easy and delicious eating without meat and dairy can be. After a record number of participants during the last edition, this year has many participants too, like supermarkets, producers, schools, petrol stations, student associations and ministries are joining this initiative.
Opening – Café Garçon, a bistro on Johannes Verhulststraat in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid opened late last year. As from now you can also enjoy ‘en terrasse au Café Garçon’. Opening – Restaurant Elea in The Hague. Hostess Bibi Kuyp and chef Takis Panagakis opened the doors of their fine-dining restaurant on the Noordeinde in the city, previously their restaurant was located in Rijswijk. A stone’s throw from the Palace Noordeinde, they serve their creative, modern cuisine with subtle Greek influences.
We’ve already had the pleasure to enjoy the Greek influences on chef Takis Panagakis’ innovative French cuisine and the enthusiasm of hostess Bibi Kuyp’s team (especially when it comes to Greek wines) so we can definitely recommend a visit to restaurant Elea in The Hague!
Starbucks recently unveiled a transformational innovation in coffee, Oleato – a line of coffee beverages that brings together the unexpected – Starbucks arabica coffee deliciously infused with a spoonful of Partanna cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil. This new product by Starbucks made us think of Bulletproof Coffee we spotted a couple of years ago, although this is made with butter and some ‘Brain Octane oil’. We most certainly are going to try the new coffee ritual at Starbucks when we go to Italy this May.

On Saturday the 18th of February, Design & Wine are launching a new wine called Larens Blanje Bleu. This white wine, made from blue grapes also known as Blanc de Noir, is made by Wijngoed Gelders Laren and is being sold exclusively by Design & Wine. The wine is made from the blue wine grape Cabertin, from the 2021 harvest. 700 bottles of this characterful wine have been produced.
