Japanese grill-restaurant & Sake Bar

This week, Japanese restaurant Ichi-e (which means a meeting or rendez-vous) opened its doors officially at the Arena Boulevard in Amsterdam. The three-story building features a sushibar and take-away on the ground floor. The first floor features the Robota Grill restaurant, where guests can enjoy shared-dining grilled meals. On the top floor, the restaurant offers the Densha Lounge (which means ‘train’ in Japanese) where guests can order bite-size snacks. This lounge is as well suitable for meetings or other private (company) parties. Besides, Ichi-e offers as well sake-tastings where guests can taste different kinds of sake.

Book a babysitter and theatre together

The problem of finding a babysitter often withholds parents to go to the theater. The Theater Bellevue in Amsterdam came with a solution for this group. Parents can visit a show while a babysitter from Babysitter Central Kriterion looks after the young one(s). The service cost 7 euro per hour and is only for inhabitants of Amsterdam, an extra fee is charged for houses outside of the city ring, at IJburg and in Amsterdam-Noord.

CoffeeQube by MobiCcino

MobiCcino opened his first CoffeeQube (an espresso bar) in an officebuilding of a big Dutch company in Amsterdam. We, of Horecatrends, are jealous, imagining having a barista in the canteen! At 6 square meter, espresso made by the Mirage machine and a barista.  MobiCcino is working on the CoffeeQube XL and XXL. Although we like the CoffeeQube we prefer the MobiCcino (smal red car), it’s such a great eyecatcher!

A crowdsourced festival without spectators

The city of Amsterdam offers a terrain in the Eastern district to the Magneet Festival (Magnet Festival) from the 19th of August until the 11th of September. This is a crowdsourced event where everyone is cocreator and owner. Under the motto “No spectators, only participants” everybody is involved in some way.

Virtual shopping in a subway station

Supermarket chain Tesco has developed a virtual shop at a subway station in South Korea. People can shop with their smartphone from billboards and get their order delivered when they get home.

Update: The Bilder & De Clercq grocery store from Amsterdam introduced an interactive wall.

Exclusive white picknick now also in New York

After exclusive pop-up picknicks in Montreal, Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin it is New York where the concept ‘Le Diner en Blanc’ unfolds on the 25th of August. The dinner guests must be dressed in white and bring their own table, chairs and food. The location is secret untill a few minutes before the start of the dinner.

Swimming in the Hudson river

Three inhabitants from New York took the initiative to get a swimming pool in the Hudson river. The ‘+Pool’ is for every New Yorker and combines different uses of a swimming pool. The concept of a swimming pool isn’t new. Last year swimming pool ‘Bad Buiten’ opened in the Amstel river (Amsterdam). The unique feature about the +Pool, is that the initiators want to filter the water from the Hudson river itself and are going to finance the project by crowdfunding.
