Drinking a beer after a workout as a sport drink? The Canadian brewery Vampt has introduced a new type of beer as a sport drink, called ‘recovery ale’ Lean Machine. The Lean Machine is developed by a team of nutritionists and contains only 77 calories, 0,5% alcohol and has antioxidants, electrolytes and nutrients. The beer contains the right ingredients to replenish lost moisture, salt, carbohydrates and protein after a workout. Researchers say that the Lean Machine can indeed have benefits for athletes.

Brand beer brewing challenge

Brand beer challenges hobby brewers to create the best Inda Pale Ale beer. Contestants have to prepare twelve bottles for tasting and testing and ten candidates can make it to the finals. Subscibtions must be made before 1 April, the bottles must be ready on 26 April. The winner will produce the beer together with the Brand brewers and will get his or her name and picture on the packaging of the first brew.

Bavaria Beer Scepter

Bavaria has made the ‘Bavaria Beer Scepter’ especially for carnival. The scepter has lights and a cup holder for beer on top. There is a storage area in the bottom to put money in. When you buy two sixpacks Bavaria you will get scepter in all supermarkets in Limburg and Brabant. In the new single ‘Drink as a prince‘ of the Dutch artists Gebroeders Ko and La Bamba you will give a sneak preview of the scepter.

Sander van Veenendaal drafts perfect beer

To enhance the draft beer quality worldwide, Heineken introduced the Star Serve program. The goal of the program is to optimize the skills of bartenders and enhance customers’ expectations of draft beer. As a part of this optimalization, the brewer has challenged bar tenders around the world to draft the perfect beer. At the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam, Dutchman Sander van Veenendaal (Grand Café de Lindenhof, Soest) overclassed 19 bartenders from i.a. Malaysia, Ireland, Dubai, Brasil and Mexico and won the Global Bartender Final. Over 3000 locations worldwide participate in the Heineken Star Serve program, 300 of them are Dutch.

Naughty Stout dinner beer

Beer sommelier Fiona de Lange has created a dinner beer together with De Leckere brewery from ‘De Meern’. Stout beer and Barley wine are combined for this special brew. Due to the composition the beer is expected to match great with red meat, game and stewed meat. Earlier this year the beer sommelier developed Royal Beer, especially made for the King.

Through Twitter Café Valentijn (Schiedam, The Netherlands) told us about their special beer tap of InBev. The beer tap has a built-in spray tap, so the glasses can be rinsed quickly and easily. Café Valentijn is one of the first in the Netherlands that will use this installation. We wish them a lot of fun and succes with the opening on September the 12th.

Free beer by doing nothing

Earlier we spotted a vending machine that you need to hug to get a Coke, or a vending machine where you need to yawn to get a free cup of coffee. But with this Amstel vending machine you don’t have to do anything at all to get a can of beer. In an effort to give young professionals a few minutes rest after work, Amstel Bulgaria and Next-DC have developed a special beer vending machine. You only need to take a rest for three minutes and you will get a can of Amstel. The video shows how difficult it actually is….

The Dutch-Belgian company Vonker (specialized in cultural activities) organizes a 2.5 to 3 hour ‘Antwerp Beerwalk’ this summer. A guide takes you through the beer history of Antwerp by visiting the most famous pubs in Antwerp. The beer guide lets you taste four Antwerp beers at four cafés and reveals some secrets of Belgian Brew Masters. The ‘Antwerp Beerwalk’ lets people discover and taste Antwerp in a unique way.

Martin House Brewing Company has developed a special breakfast beer with 5% alcohol, the ‘Day Break 4 Grain Breakfast Brew’. The beer is made of barley, wheat, oats, rye, local honey, milk and sugar. The honey, milk and sugar give the beer a unique sweetness. But whether this beer can really replace breakfast nor it is wise to have a drink before the afternoon starts… For youth at camp sites it might be a better breakfast than a beer to wash away their hangover.

Coffee beer

Chocolate beer, honey-beer, tobacco beer… We now spotted coffee beer! Anchor coffee, a small coffee company in Japan and brewery Sekinoichi in Japan have developed a unique coffee beer. A drink for the real coffee and beer lover! During the brewing process of the beer they added coffee beans, the bitterness and aroma of coffee gives the beer a deeper flavor. To save costs, existing bottles have been used and are covered with small bean-shaped stickers. The packaging is designed by Nendo. Both villages where the coffee company and brewery are located, were destroyed by the tsunami in 2011. The coffee beer is a charity project to fundraise for disaster relief.
