New style Starbucks in Amsterdam

Designer Liz Müller designed together with a team of local artists the new Starbucks in Amsterdam. The Starbucks is furnished with oak furniture, antique Delfts tiles and the wall consists of recycled inner tubes of old bicycle tires. The ceiling consists of over 1800 carved blocks. Starbucks will be opened this Friday in Amsterdam.

Starbucks used in total four shipping containers to build the coffee shop, it is decorated in the style that people would expect from Starbucks. The coffee shop is a initiative from Starbucks to stimulate the use of green buildings and environmental design in the retail. Another keen example of container upcycling.

Starbucks is launching its first major augmented reality app this holiday season that will let customers animate their coffee cups with their smartphones. Using the smartphone, one is able to make the red Starbuck cups come alive. There are multiple characters that can be found and this can be shared on Facebook. The application is available from 15 November on the App Store and the Android Market.

To launch the “My Starbucks Rewards” program, Starbucks has unveiled four new interactive storefronts in Toronto and Vancouver. In cooperation with The Media Merchants they placed monitors in the storefront where guests discover the rewards by touching the golden stars in an animated interface throughout the display.
