Unique 3D drive-in movie theater at Amsterdam Schiphol

On September 28 KLM, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, LVNL, Hertz and MasterCard organized a 3D drive-in movie theater on the deck of a parking garage, where the control tower was part of the event. 100 winners of the contest ‘Create Your Own Plane’ and friends/family could watch the movie ‘Planes’ from inside their car with 3D glasses. The sound was streamed to the car stereo via a radio frequency that was specially made available of the event. Schiphol is the first airport in the world that is used as a location for a drive-in movie theater. On October 2, KLM gave 300 kids the opportunity to watch the movie ‘Planes’, on board of a real aircraft. Popcorn was present and special effects were used to create a real-live setting.

A pop up cake hotel

A bath filled with caramel-coated popcorn, windows and walls clad with macaroons and a meringue carpet. In the London’s Soho the British cane sugar ‘Tate & Lyle Sugars’ created a pop-up cake hotel to promote the new range of gold and brown cane sugar. The cake hotel has eight rooms, each with its own theme and made of a different type of sugar. As the Pirates of the Carribean room, characterized by a huge treasure chest full of edible pearls and coins or the British-inspired golden syrup sugar room with a giant golden lion and tarts in the shape of the British Isles. It took over 2000 hours and more than 600 kilos of sugar to bake the elements for the hotel.

Rachel Howard searched in the heart of London for unusual bars en restaurants. She visited more than 100 locations looking for authentic dishes, magical interiors or eccentric hosts. At the Condé Nast Traveller website she gives a preview and reveals a few of her favorites. Like the secret cinema Wirled Cinema, shown on the picture above. The cinema is intimate and has a small bar where you can order cocktails, pizza and popcorn. The cinema is hidden in an alley and hard to find. Cirque Cuisine on wheels

Two former circus clowns recently launched Cirque Cuisine, a big tent-themed food truck that has been serving up organic global cuisine since late February. There are always gluten free and vegetarian and vegan dishes. Healthy reinterpretations of classic carnival fare, like funnel cakes, popcorn and cotton candy are also available.

Michelin-starred chef Rowley Leigh is offering cinema visitors gourmet food while they watch the film. Instead of popcorn or nacho chips you can order burgers or risotto at the Odeon Whiteleys cinema in West-London. If you order when you arrive, your meal will be served when the trailers are on and you can have your dinner while watching the movie.
