The Manhatten hotel in Rotterdam adapts to the Twitter hype in the Netherlands. The hotel is the first hotel in the Netherlands who has a twittering concierge. The concierge Lesley Klavert keeps the guests informed by Twitter about tourist attractions, restaurants, nightlife and events in Rotterdam. Guests can also ask questions via the Twitter account @conciergeRTM. Through the Twitter by the concierge, the hotel can keep the guests informed even before they come to Rotterdam.

Rotterdam becomes more green… The municipality of Rotterdam encourages urban farming and more and more urban farms sprout across the city. Inhabitants of several neighbourhoods have set up their own vegetable garden. A part of the production of the vegetable gardens is served in the neighbourhood restaurant ‘Hotspot Hutspot’. This restaurant serves three-course week menu’s for 7 euros with as many ingredients from the garden and other local produce. The menu is prepared with the help of children from the neighbourhood.

Urban agriculture becomes more popular. The municipality of Rotterdam encourages the construction of green roofs. The terrace of Restaurant Engels is situated on the roof of the ‘Groothandelsgebouw’ in Rotterdam. Herbs, vegetables and plants grow between the tables. The restaurant serves drinks, snacks and salads, and during the summer they will organize evenings like salsa dancing, talk shows and more. A very special place with a spectacular view and also sustainable.

MUST in the Kurhaus

After the unique locations like the ‘Laurenskerk’ in Rotterdam and the ‘Concertgebouw’ in Amsterdam, this year on 6 April the fifth edition of MUST will be celebrated in the Kurhaus Hotel in Scheveningen. The party is in the Kurzaal, with entertainment and DJ’s like Erick E and Funkerman. All of the 252 rooms of the Kurhaus hotel are available for the visitors of MUST. The sale of the hotel package starts on 21 February.

Taste, a matter of art

Restaurant ‘In de Keuken van Floris’, located in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) will co-operate with ‘Garage Rotterdam’, an exhibition space for contemporary art. Chef Floris Versluijs was inspired by the exhibition Border Lines, where ethnographic pieces of the collections of the World musuem are central. At about 100 musicians and another 100 performers will combine classical and electonic music in the Rotterdam harbor area during an explosive creative and visually attractive evening.

In The Netherlands we have a lot of snackbars (kind of Chips shops), a famous snackbar in Rotterdam, Bram Ladage, organizes a ‘get familiar with the origine of your fries’ day on the 8th of September. Anyone interested can join his team at a potatoe farm in Numansdorp to lift some potatoes. These potatoes are processed into chips on the spot. Bram Ladage also auctions the first crate new harvest potatoes, the revenue of this crate goes to the Sophia Childrenhospital in Rotterdam. And some golden potatoes are hidden in the field for extra prizes.
