Texel gets a new typical product, a Texel whiskey. The whiskey is not for sale yet, but the creator and producer Joscha Schoots has laid a good foundation. The whiskey is distilled with, so far as possible, ingredients of Texel. The distillates are still maturing on barrel. The salty air and the soft water of Texel, play a role in the typical taste of the whiskey. Joscha Schoots hopes to present the first whiskey bottles in 3.5 years.
The Japanese brewery Sankt Gallen Brewery has brewed a stout beer that is chocolate-flavored by using chocolate malt. The beer has 8,5 percent of alcohol and can be served in a glass made entirely of chocolate. After drinking the chocolate-flavored stout beer, you can also eat the glass to enhance the chocolate flavor of the beer.
A new shot of liquor, the bright green drink G-Shot. Introduced by two young entrepreneurs, Jeffrey van der Meer and Lars Bos from The Netherlands. According to the entrepreneurs: ‘The one and only tingling party shooter’.
Diageo, the owner of the famous whiskey Lagavulin, offers a whiskey fan the opportunity to spend two days at the distillery. Participants can register until 31 March on the website Friends of the Classic Malts. On the subscribers can be voted. The warehouse boss Iain McArthur who plays the leading role in the atmospheric film chooses the lucky one from the top 10 with the most votes. A nice way to put your company in the spotlight and start an application process at the same time.
The Vaportini provides a special way of consuming alcohol. The drink is heated and the alcohol vapor can be inhaled through a straw. As the alcohol is directly absorbed into the blood, the effect of alcohol is immediately felt. The Vaportini has the advantage of no carbs and calories.
KRNWTR thinks it’s time for an app that maps tap water in the hospitality branch. Still you can’t order a glass of tap water everywhere. With this app you can see where they serve tap water and where they don’t. You can indicate where you’ve got tap water as well. After a alcohol black-out Dhairya Dand from the MIT Media Lab has developed ice cubes that react to the music and drinking speed. The LED ice cubes changes color from green, orange to red if the drinking speed is to high. The chip inside the cubes is even able to send text messages to friends if the drinking continues.
Saturday the new club Barkode at the Wagenstraat in Amsterdam opens its doors. The concrete, robust decoration, give the visitor the feeling that everything is allowed. No strict door policy, glamour or glitters. Everybody is welcome, even wearing regular jeans and sneakers. Co-owner Kim Loman says: “Its about time that the Berlin influences also appear in Amsterdam.”
UK department store Debenhams simplifies their coffee menu, in direct opposition to coffee shops like Starbucks. No low-fat soja milk caramel mocha frappuccino, but just a really really milky coffee or a chocolate flavoured coffee, available is a cup or a mug.
