The Kick Off of Our Common Food takes place at Pakhuis de Zwijger (Amsterdam) on March 23th. Between 13.30 and 18.00 o’clock youth and professionals who are committed to sustainable food can meet with each other. Created teams devise solutions for different cases to the final presentation in October (leading up to World Food Day). Using articles, blogs and/or videos the teams keep their environment informed of the products/actions they have devised.
The Crescent Moon Tower is a design project by Transparence House and is submitted to the 11th Thyssenkrup Elevator Architecture Award. This building design symbolizes Dubai as part of the islamic world and shows the technology and economic development in Dubai. The building accommodates a childrens library, a conference facility, a restaurant, multiple cafés and an open air observation platform. If the design will be build, it is said to be completed in 2015 along with it’s sister project the “Full Moon Hotel”, resembling the Death Star form Star Wars.
Munchausen, a duo formed by Parisian designers Simon Pillard and Philippe Rosetti, took a bold approach with their own kitchen by venturing to IKEA spending the next week covering a basic IKEA kitchen island with more than 20,000 Lego bricks. Click for more photo’s of the Lego kitchen.
A new purple strawberry ‘Purple Wonder’ was unveiled by the W. Atlee Burpee Company this week at the Philadelphia International Flower Show. The strawberry was actually bred by horticulturists at Cornell University but Burpee will have exclusive rights to market the plant to home gardeners.
Brook Abboud designed Baked Potato Bean Bag, a food inspired creation that will bring a smile to your face. Handmade from organic cotton the chair comes with silk butter pillows. It’s extremely soft and comfortable.
The KABAN at the Kapellerput, Conference Hotel in the Netherlands is known to make a meeting session almost into a party. To celebrate this success they brewed a special triple beer together with The Fontein brewery. The result is a strong lager with 7,5% alcohol. Remarkable is the ingredient gale (herb), which grows on the banks of the pond and was often used in traditional beer.
`Best Pizza in Manhattan’ by Daily News and ‘Best of Manhattan’ by NY Press, the pizzas from L’Asso Pizza (NY) are very special. Their biggest draw is the city’s finest ‘legal’ pizza. A law was recently passed defining the proper way to prepare their Margherita DOC. Their pizzas are made using only the highest quality organic ingredients. And they show us that a pizza isn’t only perfect when round.

The smallest cinema in Amsterdam, De Uitkijk on the Prinsengracht, was dominated last Friday to parents with babies under 1 year old. On tables in the lobby one could find pacifiers and spit cloths hung on the cinema seats. It was the first edition of Baby Bios. The Baby Bios has already been seen in other countries.
