From the 25th to the 31st of October the second edition of the Fair Trade restaurant week will be held. This week is an initiative of the sustainable culinary guide “Puur! Uit eten” and the Max Havelaar Foundation. The goal? Promotion for the consumption of Fairtrade-products in the hospitality industry.

Creater James Nash booked a great success with his wine-to-go. The glass of wine with a lid, costs € 3,=, and has the same pricelevel as a glass of wine in a bar. The wine is available in red, white and rosé wine. A rather expensive alternative to a bottle of wine and some plastic glasses for a picnic in the park. Perhaps suitable for singles? What do you think?
Safeway Georgetown, Washington DC goes local

A Safeway-supermarket has taken the streetscape into account, to create a garage behind the building. Also, the supermarket is located on the topfloor of the 2-story building, so that on streetlevel, the building accommodates local suppliers. Nice initiative! Which entrepreneur provides a platform for local suppliers?

Next Restaurant in Chicago will start a new concept. The restaurant will serve menus based on cities of the world in the past or the future. For example, a menu called “Paris 1912”, the menu of Hong Kong from the future, 2036. The most special feature of this concept will be that you will have to buy tickets online to make a reservation.

Hotel Vitale has a new service for their guests. Guests can go grocery shopping with the chef at the local farmersmarket to pick out the ingredients for a two course meal. The guest does not only determine the recipes but the ingredients as well.

Hana-Awaka is a mildly alcoholic beverage that is introduced by Sake Europe. Hana-Awake, which means ‘sparkling’ or ‘sparkling flower’, contains 7% alcohol and is served in a champagne flute. The drink is introduced in trendy Dutch restaurants such as Ivy, Le Marron and Valuas.

At Restaurant & Bar Clyde Common in Portland (Oregon) they age cocktails in oak barrels. Negrogis, a mixture of gin, campari and vermouth, gets a gentle oak taste after aging for 6 weeks in whiskey barrels.
