On October 11th , the Dorint hotel at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport opened the world’s first Green & Fairtrade floor. The forty rooms and suites are part of the new sustainable facilities that the hotel offers guests forgreen and fair accommodation and meetings.
At the Sniff Dog Hotel in Portland, Oregon, you can not only stay at the hotel, the reception and the spa, they now opened a café. In this cozy café can owner and dog can enjoy the company of other people and dogs.
The Bar Boy, symbolizing the 60’s has had a facelift by Moët & Chandon. This Boy Bar consists of three parts, the lower part where the bottles are cooled, the middle part which has room for four glasses and the upper compartment whoch has room for accessories. On the outside the Bar Boy finished with a black lacquer and inside is finished with leather.
The Papri is a double-sided door hanger with ‘do not disturb’ on one sideand and a checklist for housekeeping on the other side. On the checklist guests indicate what work they want done. It provides a green and more efficient management and better communication with the guest. Since the checklist is marked with erasable ink, the card is reusable. This makes the Papri not only guest, but also environmentally friendly.
The Spanish chain Lookotels will build several sustainable low-budget hotels, each with 100 rooms. The rooms are prefabricated modules and offer a bed, tv, desk and chair, a telephone, airconditioning, wifi and a bathroom. By integrating a self-service check-in system personnel costs are being saved.
The Inter Continental Park Lane Hotel in London designed a special burger for the Fashion Week (September 17th to 22nd), the so-called “skinny burger”. The burger only contains 143 calories and 2.4 grams of fat. The burger is served with a glass of wild berry ice tea and costs 20,- pounds.
In the hotels of the Boscolo Group, guests receive a cookbook in the room. The book is not only that but also the roomservice menu, the guests may take the book home with them.
On Friday September 10th 2010 the Teaching Hotel Chateau Bethlehem was officially opened. This ancient castle has been decorated by contemporary Dutch designers. The hotel serves as a learning environment for students of the Hotelschool Maastricht.
