#RCMemories through promoted by

10-6-2013

The official twitter stream of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. Tweeting for global travelers, collectors of #RCMemories and lovers of #luxury. We do not often see examples of hotels using the ‘promoted by’ opportunity via Twitter. Recently we spotted the above mentioned tweet promoted by @RitzCarlton: ‘Travel inspires the most treasured memories. Share yours on @twitter & @instagram with #RCMemories. We can’t wait to see what you discover‘. They gather photos taken by their guest at #RCMemories at Twitter and Instagram. Thus the story of vacationing at the Ritz-Carlton locations worldwide are told through pictures by their guests. Great marketing campaign! And inspiration for each hotel or restaurant. As to come up with a hash tag for your own business is easy. Getting your guest to send in pictures is a challenge! We contribute to the #RCMemories by placing the picture of the Bathmenu from the Ritz-Carlton in Kuala Lumpur. Also shown in our booklet ‘Royal hospitable gestures‘.

Online marktplace for food

15-5-2013

June 2010, we spotted Food Hub, an online sales system for local products. Producers tell online what is salable of their harvest and restaurateurs / retailers know where fresh local products are for sale. An initiative that has also been launched by other parties. Food Hub is active in the West of the USA (started from Portland) and we recently spotted Foodem that started from Baltimore (Maryland) with their B2B platform for food suppliers (farms, specialty food producers and distributors) and food buyers (hotels, connects restaurants schools, hospitals, etc.). The latter have recently launched a new version of their platform. Foodem 2.0 has added price transparency, more efficient processes and increased possibilities for analytical reports. The websites are becoming more professional. In the article of 2010, we were already wondering who will start a similar website in the Netherlands and we actually still do! The film above by Food Hub gives a clear idea about the impact for buyers and sellers.

Mama Sopa

  • mama sopa

Mama Sopa has developed soap products to support the projects of the famous Dutch water foundation SIMAVI. For each product sold, SIMAVI gives a hygiene training to a mother in India, to improve the health of their families and provides mothers with the knowledge they need to prevent diseases. The Dutch design packages are very appealing and designed by Studio Conn-Fetti. These playful soap products are great to use in hotels! It would be great if a hotel puts these soap products in the rooms, to contribute to charity.

Tree houses are popular

Tree houses are hot! Sleeping among the squirrels, high in the trees and surrounded by nature. Tree houses are an original, inspiring, environmentally friendly and adventurous way to spend the night. Tree houses aren’t only fun for children but also for families to spend their holidays. There are more and more accommodations located in tree houses. A new crowd funding project is the ‘Treehouse Island‘. An island where guests can sleep, seek zip line thrills and hike in the woods. Besides an adventurous way to spend a night, a tree house can also be an inspirational environment for meetings. Earlier we saw that the Kapellerput has build a conference room in the trees. At the website thecoolhunter.net you can find a lot of inspiration if you consider building tree houses.

Artwork of sleep patterns

5-4-2013

Watch how you’ve spent the night with a piece of art. That is possible at hotel chain Ibis Hotels. The chain offers guests a ‘sleep art app’ that makes an artwork of your sleep pattern. As the guest sleeps, the app runs throughout the night recording sounds, movements and vibrations through the iPhone’s built-in sensors. Your unconscious activity during your sleep has been interpreted as a colorful work of art. Natural green shades in the sleep masterpieces signal a relaxed night of sleep, whilst red and amber tones suggest that you had a restless night. The ‘sleep artwork’ can be shared by email or via Twitter and Facebook.

Hotel with an indoor market

Architect Dean Moran is the winner of the Rethink Hotels competition. He came up with a concept hotel where the focus is not only on the accommodation, but also on the ‘underlying principle of local food’. The hotel, named Allotment Hotel, will include a market where local producers can sell their products. The products, produced within 100 km and grown with sustainable principles, will also be used as part of the dishes the restaurant serves. In the center of the hotel there will also be an open-air courtyard that provides natural light. Dean Moran wants to build the hotel in downtown New York, but there are no concrete plans yet to build the hotel.
