A real Dutch initiative! An extremely fruitful season has led to an abundance of 64,000 bottles of wine at the nuns of the Sint Catharinadal monastery in Oosterhout (small city in the south of the Netherlands). To market this Sint Catharinadal wine, the nuns have enlisted the help of an old friend: Thibaud van der Steen of Breda’s No Waste Army.<\/p>\n
Great idea to see if you can serve this local wine in your restaurant or bar in the area of Breda – Oosterhout?<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n 1 minute read<\/p>\n “The dry, warm and sunniest season ever has produced beautiful, full bunches of grapes last year,” prioress Maria Magdalena of the Sint Catharinadal monastery proudly tells us. “From this we were able to make 64,000 bottles of ros\u00e9 and white wine, almost twice as many as in a normal season.” Good news you would think, but with the new season just around the corner, it is quite a challenge for the nuns to get rid of this stock. While that is exactly what is important, as the proceeds from the wine are meant for the maintenance of the convent.<\/p>\n Fortunately, in such a case, Prioress Maria Magdalena knows who to call: Thibaud van der Steen of the Breda platform No Waste Army<\/a>, a collaboration between \u2018Breda Maakt mij Blij\u2019<\/a>(Breda Makes Me Happy) and Boerschappen<\/a> (farmers shelf). The prioress and Thibaud first met in 2020. At the time, due to the corona crisis, the nuns were left with a surplus of 20,000 bottles of wine that they could not sell. The video in which prioress Maria Magdalena made an appeal went viral and within days all the bottles of wine found a new owner.<\/p>\n When Thibaud received another phone call recently, he was immediately enthusiastic: “The wine action is one of the most extraordinary rescues we have ever done. Because of the national media attention, the logistical operation and the enormous gratitude of the nuns, I still look back on this with a warm feeling.
