The patisserie \u2013 which is almost lab-like in its aestehetic with touches of gold and is designed by renowned interior designer Remi Tessier \u2013 has a central focal point: The Chef\u2019s Counter which will host a globally exclusive dining experience inside the lab, set to wow Londoners and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Reading time: 3 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>C\u00e9dric Grolet at The Berkeley offers a trompe-l\u2019oeil scone | Especially for the Brits<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With a string of accolades citing him as the best pastry chef in the world, C\u00e9dric Grolet is known for his trompe-l&#8217;\u0153il artistry and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/cedricgrolet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <u>legendary Instagram channel<\/u><\/a> which has a following of 2.2 million, and which he runs himself with signature flair and spontaneity. With the world\u2019s glitterati DM-ing him for personal commissions and an obsessive global fanbase, Grolet has been awarded rock star status particularly in his native France, with queues of customers lining outside his patisseries. He has chosen London, and specifically The Berkeley \u2013 known for its innovative spirit and creative food offering \u2013 as his first home outside of Paris.\u00a0 C\u00e9dric Grolet says \u2018London was the first city I ever visited outside of France. It has always had a very special place in my heart, and to open in this incredible city is a longtime dream. We couldn\u2019t let this occasion pass without creating something unique for the capital \u2013 a trompe-l&#8217;\u0153il scone especially for the Brits.\u2019<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Each morning fresh viennoiserie | And spectacular flower creations for Valentine\u2019s Day<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>C\u00e9dric Grolet at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/the_berkeley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>The Berkeley<\/u><\/a> is positioned on Knightsbridge, with leafy views over Hyde Park.\u00a0 It will open seven days a week selling the chef\u2019s signature viennoiserie, cookies, cakes and standout patisseries for takeaway, all made each morning fresh for the day, with a \u2018once they are gone, they are gone!\u2019 policy.\u00a0 Grolet\u2019s most famous creations are his fruits and flower cakes, which will be sold together for the very first time in this new space in London. Currently, these creations are sold in separate patisseries in Paris.\u00a0 Both series of cakes are inspired by the seasons, and have a very personal story: fruit played a part in Grolet\u2019s childhood when he was given a piece of fruit as he set off to school each day and he picked fruit for pocket money at the weekends, whilst\u00a0 the flower cakes are inspired by his mother who used to tell him \u2018that with a simple flower, you can conquer the world.\u2019\u00a0 For launch on Valentine\u2019s Day only, Grolet will open with a one-off series of spectacular flower creations in an array of colours.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Chef\u2019s Counter and takeaway<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>For those who want more than a takeaway experience, C\u00e9dric Grolet and The Berkeley have created a series of dining moments, showcasing masterpieces that will evolve with the seasons.\u00a0 Within the patisserie, sits the immersive The Chef\u2019s Counter, flanked by two sets of four seats.\u00a0 Guests will be treated to a menu of signature tastings \u2013 five sweet and one savoury \u2013 and champagne, and will be wowed by Grolet\u2019s team of pastry chefs making finishing touches to his staggering creations.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Berkeley Caf\u00e9<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The patisserie is nestled directly next to an entirely new space in the hotel \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-berkeley.co.uk\/restaurants-bars\/the-berkeley-cafe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Berkeley Caf\u00e9<\/a>.\u00a0 This all day dining spot will be home to two standout C\u00e9dric Grolet moments throughout the day \u2013 petit d\u00e9jeuner and go\u00fbter. For breakfast, guests will enjoy viennoiserie, waffles, crepes and savoury signatures such as croissant benedicte. Go\u00fbter is the long-standing French ritual of sweet snacking.\u00a0 This menu features standout showstoppers from the patisserie including, at launch, the London exclusive Scone, the Noisette and the Citron, Grolet\u2019s bestselling creations in Paris.\u00a0 Flower cakes and viennoiserie also feature \u201c\u00e0 la carte\u201d, including Grolet\u2019s multi layered and irresistable Pain Suisse.\u00a0 This menu is designed to be enjoyed with champagne. All desserts served alongside The Berkeley\u2019s lunch and dinner menus served in the Caf\u00e9 space will be C\u00e9dric Grolet\u2019s creations. Reservations can be made <u>here<\/u>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The design is like a high end pastry \u2018lab\u2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The patisserie has been designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.remi-tessier.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>French interior designer Remi Tessier<\/u><\/a> as a high end pastry \u2018lab\u2019 with polished stainless steel, white stone and a gold leaf gilded ceiling. A glass screen hangs over the central counter, engraved with gold.\u00a0 The walls feature carved flowers and lemons, representing Grolet\u2019s first ever union of his fruit and flower creations, and the scallop floor tiles represent the apple slices that Grolet found in the \u2018tarte aux pommes\u2019 he enjoyed as a child.\u00a0 Grolet and team have painstakingly poured over the details for over a year with handmade ceramics from France, gold cutlery and the beautiful patisserie packaging, lined with gold.
