The Vegetables Chef\u00ae, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/frank_fol_the_vegetables_chef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frank Fol<\/a>, launched the organization to demonstrate and emphasize fruits &amp; vegetables in cuisine to individuals, restaurants and companies. Every year the We\u2019re Smart World publishes the We\u2019re Smart Green Guide, the authority on the best plant-based restaurants around the world. We\u2019re Smart World was also chosen as one of the official SDG Voices 2021: designated ambassadors of the UN\u2019s Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>The We\u2019re Smart Future Awards puts the culinary achievements and innovations in fruit &amp; vegetables in the spotlight to promote the vast nutritional, taste, and environmental advantages. Frank Fol: \u201cAs forty-five countries at the COP26 climate talks recently signed to make farming more sustainable, additional commitments were made on methane reduction and deforestation prevention. To achieve this, pledging nations see the need for greater investments and innovations in green agricultural practices. We\u2019re Smart Future Awards hopes to generate greater visibility for the people and companies behind these practices, as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Award designations take place after the We\u2019re Smart World jury visits hundreds of restaurants around the globe. Over the past year, the team judged the restaurants on their menu\u2019s proportion of fruit and vegetables, as well as on culinary creativity, ecological footprint, and surprising taste combinations.\u00a0 The jury also crowns companies each year that are exceptionally committed to healthy and sustainable food and projects. Check out the winners!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Person of the year 2021: Rob Baan of Koppert Cress in the Netherlands<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Selected for the development of over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horecatrends.com\/en\/?s=koppert+cress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">62 edible plant products<\/a> for the professional chef, Rob Baan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/koppertcress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Koppert Cress <\/a>product line originates from freshly-sprouted seedlings (cresses) and other edible leaves and flowers from 100% natural aromatic plants, which Baan sees as instrumental to good health, too.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Innovation of the year 2021: The Green Bean from the Netherlands<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Recognized for the innovative use of <a href=\"https:\/\/the-eatelier.com\/portfolio-item\/the-green-bean-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Green Bean\u2019s<\/a> protein potential. The Green Bean currently manufactures plant-based feta, camembert and yoghurt using an extracted plant protein. The resulting green-tinted products are a true conversation starter, but still serve as a reminder that this dairy alternative has a positive environmental impact on soil quality.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Product of the year 2021: VOL5<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horecatrends.com\/en\/new-store-concept-in-new-york-by-starbucks-pickup-and-amazon-go\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VOL5 <\/a>(stands for Vegetarisch (Vegetarian) Onwijs (Incredible) Lekker (Delicious) from the Netherlands. Similarly, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plant-t.be\/wie-zijn-wij\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plant-T<\/a> manufactures vertical farming towers that can be used by individuals, schools or organizations to grow flowers and vegetables. Both products require little water.<\/p>\n<h3>Media of the year 2021: Gambero Rosso from Italy<\/h3>\n<p>Gambero Rosso is an institution in Italy and the leading platform for content, training, promotion and consulting in the Italian Wine, Travel, &amp; Food industries. Much of the\u00a0 Italian kitchen is already vegetable-oriented, but for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamberorossointernational.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gambero Rosso<\/a> to adopt a 100% plant-based focus adds an extra dimension of authority, respect and creativity.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Communication of the year 2021: Eleven Madison Park goes vegan from the USA.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>For plant-based fans, this was one of the best media moments of 2021. Legendary chef Daniel Humm of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/elevenmadisonpark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eleven Madison Park<\/a> changed to a <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2021\/05\/06\/business\/eleven-madison-park-vegan-challenges\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">100% plant-based menu<\/a>. By making this pioneering decision, combined with the media attention that followed, pivoting towards vegan cuisine helped many chefs realize a plant-based revolution is coming. They are lauded for their exemplary decision.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Special Future Award of the year 2021: The Green Star by Michelin from France<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The MICHELIN Guide, the benchmark in gastronomy, has remained an unchanged constant for years, but recently added a new distinction dedicated to sustainable gastronomy to its rating system.
