During the first lockdown we had the\u00a0<\/span><\/i>first restaurant in the Netherland to serve<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>food\u00a0<\/span><\/i>corona proof\u00a0<\/span><\/i>in\u00a0<\/span><\/i>small greenhouses for 2 persons<\/span><\/i><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>Which was\u00a0<\/span><\/i>a great choice as we have a lot of big greenhouses all over the Netherlands. It has been\u00a0<\/span><\/i>used\u00a0<\/span><\/i>in<\/span><\/i>\u00a0several\u00a0<\/span><\/i>sizes and\u00a0<\/span><\/i>at different locations in the Netherlands. A<\/span><\/i>s are the\u00a0<\/span><\/i>dining pods<\/span><\/i>\u00a0which are used as hotel rooms\u00a0<\/span><\/i>or as small private dining\u00a0<\/span><\/i>booths<\/span><\/i>\u00a0during\u00a0winter\u00a0<\/span><\/i>time\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><\/i>which are also corona proof.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>Now we spotted Mountain Tap Brewer<\/span><\/i>y,\u00a0<\/span><\/i>located in the mountain ski resort town of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where winter low temperatures often reach below freezing and snow piles up by the feet.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0Faced with the likelihood of extremely limited capacity for indoor seating due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mountain Tap Brewery brainstormed a creative use of its spacious patio to accommodate winter guests. In the autumn of 2020, the brewpub transformed several out-of-use gondola cars into private seating booths and installed them on the patio.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0It might be an idea\u00a0<\/span><\/i>for all the restaurants located in ski resorts in Europe as well.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>We have been spotting\u00a0<\/span><\/i>gondel\u00a0sauna\u2019s<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>and<\/span><\/i>\u00a0in 2009\u00a0<\/span><\/i>we wrote\u00a0<\/span><\/i>an article about world\u2019s smallest restaurant the\u00a0<\/span><\/i>Genussgondel\u00a0in Fiss<\/span><\/i><\/a>, Austria where you c<\/span><\/i>ould<\/span><\/i>\u00a0enjoy dinner in a gondola lift.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>W<\/span><\/i>ith a maximum four people, you\u00a0<\/span><\/i>enjoyed<\/span><\/i>\u00a0a\u00a0three course\u00a0dinner\u00a0<\/span><\/i>with a<\/span><\/i>\u00a0spectacular view over the Tyrolean mountains.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>When I started ski<\/span><\/i>ing in the seventy\u2019s, the first\u00a0<\/span><\/i>lifts we used were open<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u2018bin<\/span><\/i>s<\/span><\/i>\u2019<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0in Italy<\/span><\/i>,\u00a0<\/span><\/i>those could be used\u00a0<\/span><\/i>outside by<\/span><\/i>\u00a0apr<\/span><\/i>\u00e8s ski bars to keep social distance!\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\ud83d\ude09<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/i>^Marjolein<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

COVID-19 proof dining\u00a0<\/span><\/b>in gondola\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The gondola cars previously shuttled skiers at Killington Ski Area in Vermont. The ski area upgraded the cabins on its K1 lift in 2018, and the old cabins eventually made their way to Colorado. Mountain Tap Brewery worked with a gondola restoration company called The Gondola Shop in Fruita, Colorado to obtain three gondola cabins. Much of the mechanical equipment in the cabins \u2013 such as the door mechanisms and cables \u2013 was removed. Then the cabins were equipped with a heater, twinkly lights, a table and a\u00a0bluetooth\u00a0speaker. The gondola\u2019s original bench seating remains intact.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201c2020 was a challenging year for businesses, to say the least,\u201d said Mountain Tap Brewery\u00a0brewmaster\u00a0and co-owner Rich Tucciarone. \u201cGoing into winter with limited indoor seating was daunting. We needed to have a little fun with our plan. We thought this unique concept of utilizing our outdoor patio for additional seating in gondola cabins would provide us and our guests with that fun factor, while also keeping everyone safely distanced\u2026 and we were correct!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While the pandemic and its resulting seating restrictions is what prompted the gondola cabin seating idea, Mountain Tap\u2019s owners believe the cabins will help them increase their profitability for winters to come. The<\/span>y<\/span>\u00a0worked with the City of Steamboat Springs to permanently permit the use of the gondolas on the patio every winter.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMore than half of our summer seating is outdoors on the patio,\u201d said Mountain Tap Brewery general manager and co-owner Jeff Goodhand. \u201cSpace and seating are always the limiting factor in the wintertime, even without restrictions. Throughout the pandemic, we have focused on the good that can come out of it.
