At the beginning of October, our colleagues from Van Spronsen & Partners hospitality consultancy<\/a>, \u00a0published their sector research ‘De hostel in beeld’<\/a> (published only in Dutch). This publication shows that the youth hostel image has been stuck to the hostels for years, it\u2019s now changing partly thanks to the newer, contemporary trendy concepts. Nowadays, hostels also profile themselves partly as hotels, with less large dormitories and more private rooms. This ensures a separation in different types of hostels: the classic youth hostel, budget hostels and boutique, design hostels. A nice example of a hostel where it is not just about the overnight stay is the Wellness Hostel 4000 & Aqua Allalin in Saas Fee, Switzerland. And in 2020 a second Wellness hostel will open in Laax, Wellness hostel 3000 & Aua Grava.<\/p>\n

Wellness Hostel 4000 & Aqua Allalin<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Wellness Hostel 4000<\/a> is part of \u2018Hostelling International, Schweizer Jugendherbergen<\/a>\u2019 and the world’s first wellness hostel, located in the car-free center of the glacier village Saas-Fee in Switzerland. The hostel combines a typical relaxed atmosphere of a hostel with modern wellness and fitness facilities. Contemporary architecture combined with friendly hospitality and sustainability, to experience a high quality of life. The hostel welcomes guests from all over the world. It opened in September 2014 and they have different rooms for 2 to max 6 people. It is a 5-minute walk from the nearest lift (Alpin Express) and only 50 meters from a bus stop. The hostel has large, bright and modern common areas such as the cozy lobby, bistro and restaurant. Free Wi-Fi is available.<\/p>\n

Guests can enjoy daily freshly prepared meals in Restaurant 4000, which is part of the hostel. If the weather is warm enough, the meals can be enjoyed outside on the terrace. With as bonus impressive views over the mountains! Bistro 4000 is the focal point of Wellness Hostel 4000. Here, guests can drink an aperitif around the fireplace or enjoy Alpine Tapas and refreshing lassis (fruit\/milk drinks).<\/p>\n

1,900 m2 of sport & wellness<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The wellness of the hostel consists of a Finnish sauna, bio-soft sauna, herbal steam bath, foot bath, treatments with hot stones, hydromassage showers such as rain showers, freezing fog, mountain stream and waterfall, relax area, telephone\/tablet free area and a tea corner. The wellness also has a 25-meter indoor pool, whirlpool, children’s pool, water slide and an outdoor terrace. In the fitness center, the emphasis is on strength and endurance, the state-of-the-art Nautilus fitness equipment offers both professional and recreational athletes the opportunity to do varied, systematic and efficient workouts. Following the sport activities there is a possibility to receive massages.<\/p>\n

Wellness Hostel 3000 & Aua Grava<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Currently the old communal swimming pool in Laax is being refurbished and a second Wellness Hostel is being built, with a building credit of 16.25 million Swiss Francs. The municipality is responsible for the construction of Wellness Hostel 3000<\/a> and the management of the indoor swimming pool and the wellness hostel is outsourced to the Swiss Youth Hostels (SJH) and the Swiss Foundation for Social Tourism (SSST).
