Most of us know them, K\u00f6ttbullar, the famous IKEA meatballs. They\u2019re almost as legendary as the furniture itself. For the ones who can\u2019t get enough of them, we got news: IKEA is considering opening IKEA standalone restaurants! Hopefully in the near future you can enjoy the famous meatballs together with a class of lingonberry juice and a piece of Daim cake in one of the IKEA standalone restaurants.<\/p>\n

IKEA standalone restaurants<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To date, IKEA<\/a> showed quite some innovations in the food industry. In 2015 they introduced chicken and vegan Swedish meatballs to meet customers\u2019 desire for healthier and more carefully sourced options. Additionally, 30% of IKEA Food\u2019s customers are visiting the stores to have some food. We think that\u2019s why IKEA came up with the idea of introducing IKEA standalone restaurants.<\/p>\n

Currently, IKEA is considering the idea of IKEA restaurants that operate separately from the traditional stores. Michael La Cour, IKEA\u2019s Food\u2019s managing director says the following in an interview at Fast Company<\/a>: \u201cThe mere fact that we don\u2019t need so many square feet to do a caf\u00e9 or a restaurant makes it interesting by itself. I firmly believe there is potential. I hope in a few years our customers will be saying, IKEA is a great place to eat and they also sell some furniture.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dining Club by IKEA<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In September 2016, IKEA opened The Dining Club in Shoreditch, London<\/a>. The Dining Club by IKEA brought together people to celebrate the joys of cooking together. The Dining Club featured a DIY pop-up restaurant (were people were able to host their own dinner parties for friends), an IKEA caf\u00e9 serving Swedish delicacies, \u2018Food for Thought\u2019 workshops, a kitchen showcase area with a virtual reality kitchen, and a unique shop. In the past, IKEA also opened pop-up restaurants in Olso and Paris.
