Scary cakes<\/h3>\n

There will probably be much cake left at the birthdays of Katherine Dey. The cakes she makes don\u2019t only look scary, but also seem extremely real! On Facebook<\/a> you can find the craziest cakes, like the \u2018braincake\u2019 that is still connected to the brainstem or a bloody heart with a knife in it.<\/p>\n

She gets the inspiration for the cakes from her work as a nurse. She knows a lot of different body parts and organs. Katherine told BuzzFeed<\/a> that her inspiration to make the cakes comes from many places: \u201cI am inspired by a lot of things. I love that strange feeling I get when something looks real but it isn\u2019t. Or when a cake doesn\u2019t look particularly appetizing but it tastes delicious. I like to make people feel two conflicting things at once.\u201d<\/p>\n

Portrait cakes<\/h3>\n

Katherine doesn\u2019t make cakes of body parts only also of people themselves. Because the cakes look so real, the portraits can be quite disturbing. \u201cThe reaction is usually a strong one,\u201d she said. \u201cSome people are excited about them, some people are a little disgusted.\u201d She says that eventually all cakes get eaten. \u201cI have to say, no matter how disgusted some people may be, in the end no one has refused to eat the cake.\u201d<\/p>\n
