YouTube has been a source of inspiration for spotting trends the past few years. Every day, thousands of movies are uploaded with new and interesting content. We too sometimes use videos as a source of inspiration to write about. With this week again a selection of 3 videos which our colleague Micha Luksenburg thinks are worth watching.

Sleeping in a potato | The Potato Hotel

In the region known for … you guessed it: potatoes (!), this giant potato has been placed and has an Airbnb function. The giant fake potato, before being used as an Airbnb accommodation, drove across America to promote potatoes. After the promotion tour, the potato got its new destination as Airbnb room.

Great way to promote a product! An Airbnb room would be great in some regions in the Netherlands as well, we have a lot of potato fields! Or how about a giant Airbnb wooden clog or giant Tulip in the tulip fields ;-).

We too sometimes use videos as a source of inspiration to write about. With this week again a selection of videos which Micha Luksenburg thinks are worth watching.

This week a video about Chef Miro Uskokovic at the Gramercy Tavern who uses alternative sugars and he is making a delicious looking ‘ice cream sundae’ with these sugars. Next to that a video about a special collaboration between Airbnb and the Louvre museum and finally a video about drones delivering coffee in Australia. read more

This week, among other links to articles about a lemon for dessert at LROOM Café in New York and Kubus croissants at Weirdoughs in Melbourne. We also came across a special, ‘jiggly’ pancake dessert at Gram Café and Pancakes in San Francisco and Airbnb signed an agreement to acquire the HotelTonight website.

And would you have your saliva, urine or stool analysed before going out to eat sushi? The sushi is of course made on the basis of these analyses, but we don’t know! read more

A revolutionary pocket-sized sanitizing robot with AI launched end 2018 from Ventur Studio.  CleanseBot is an automated smart cleaning and disinfecting robot using UV-C lights to kill 99.99% of germs and bacteria with no mess and no chemicals. Their Kickstarter campaign last year pledged more than 1 million by 10,474 backers. We wonder when we’re going to hear from hotel owners that they spotted guests using the CleanseBot! read more

This week, amongst others, about an automatic Negroni machine in the underground cocktail bar Mr. Fogg’s in London and people living there can order IKEA’s Swedish meatballs through Uber Eats. Michelin released their ‘Cantonese Food Guide 2019’, this is the first Michelin guide that focuses on a cuisine, not a city or region. And also a link to a video  about the Avocaderia in Brooklyn and the EFSA (the European Food Safety Authority) has developed a new food safety management approach that makes it simpler for small retailers to donate food. This week, amongst others about the Amsterdam Terraces Festival at the end of August in the Rembrandtpark during which the finish of the summer is celebrated. Starbucks joins forces with a cryptocurrency venture so that the Bitcoin could break through as regular currency. Next weekend the GinFever festival will be held in Schiedam and the Dutch coffee concept Kaldi opens its first branch in Denmark. Chiringuito has opened in a former public toilet in London (and it looks great!) and in Paris you can enjoy ‘Ducasse sur Seine’ as from September 4th.

This week, amongst others about artichoke toast, it seems to low in calories and high in fiber, vitamins and minerals! So move over avocado toast because artichoke toast sounds just as delicious! A robot will serve pizzas in France and Alain Ducasse wil open a chocolate shop in London. London will try to tackle overtourism with a game you’ll play on your mobile phone, ‘Play London With Mr. Bean’.

This week, amongst others about the ice cream shop Ben & Jerry’s in London that kicked off a blockchain initiative to let customers offset their carbon footprint. And about the new food app Provision that connects food pantries to eliminate food waste. Parisian confectioner Fauchon is best known for their delicious and beautifully crafted desserts and pastries and now they announced that they will be opening a hotel in Paris, from haute cuisine to hospitality! Who knows maybe guests will find one of their delicious pastries on their pillow after turndown service ;-).
