Milk cube
Students of the Rijn IJssel College in Arnhem (the Netherlands) won the first prize with a milk cube for in the coffee. The milk cube looks the same as a lump of sugar, but is made of milk powder and stays edible for 3 years. The company won the prize as Best Overall Company during the International Student Company Festival in Riga.
Special beer for the Kaban at the Kapellerput
The KABAN at the Kapellerput, Conference Hotel in the Netherlands is known to make a meeting session almost into a party. To celebrate this success they brewed a special triple beer together with The Fontein brewery. The result is a strong lager with 7,5% alcohol. Remarkable is the ingredient gale (herb), which grows on the banks of the pond and was often used in traditional beer.
Seaweed cultivation on sea
The consultancy firm Ecofys leads a group of companies with the cultivation of seaweed on a 'farm' at sea, 10 km off the coast of Texel (Netherlands). The production serves as fish and animal food, or as fuel to generate energy. The test will show whether large-scale cultivation of biomass is possible. The first breeding is expected at end of June.
Talk yourself into a restaurant
Students in the Netherlands can ask their parents in a funny way out for dinner by sending an e-card of Culinairewinstpakker. The students can eat for free when they bring their parents. At the moment it's only available for the four biggest student cities Delft, The Hague, Leiden and Rotterdam.
Battle for fair and sustainable food
The Cheetah Generation is a group of new generation leaders around the world. They create innovative ideas for new sustainable ways. NCDO organises "Battle of the Cheetahs" (Netherlands) a competition for five teams (60 young proffesionals) to find solutions for fair and sustainable food. Coaches from business, science and NGO will guide the groups to develop ideas within six weeks.
Vruit, very slow juices
Fresh slowly pressed juices, great combinations like, apple-ginger-carrot, celery-spinach, cucumber-coconut-apple, apple-cranberry and apple-cinnamon-clove. The company Vruit is located in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
Alcohol free Carnival
Vrumona (producer of soda drinks) surprised "Prins Fris" (temporary mayor during Carnival festivities) with hundreds of bottles of soda. According to Vrumona the Prince finds soda tastier than beer. They also want to make clear that Carnival can be celebrated alcohol free. At least the soda will be a welcome addition to a Carnival diet.
Take a picture at the Coffee Company
Today photographers of the website Citysessies make the whole day free professional photos at some branches of the Coffee Company in the Netherlands. Citysessies make pictures of copples, but you also can be photographed alone and send the foto to your Valentine. The best photos will be mailed the same day. The photographers are in Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Amersfoort.
Reservation app
Reservation website Couvert.nl launched on February 8th an app that allows consumers to make free reservations in restaurants in the Netherlands 24 hours per day. Also, the current menu information of these restaurant, pricing, interior photos and a video impression data are given. The Couverts app is available for iPhone, Android and later this week BlackBerry.

Chef-cook makes an ice cream for supermarkt
Hans van Wolde, chef and owner of the two-star-restaurant Beluga in Maastricht (the Netherlands) has develop an ice cream for Albert Heijn (Dutch supermarket chain). The ice cream has a special flavor combination: pineapple, coconut, lemon, passion fruit and banana mixed and placed on a stick. Sorry, but only available in the Netherlands!
